UN Procedures Regarding Public Access during the Discussion of The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

The Secretariat of the Forum, in consultation with UN Security and UN Protocol wishes to convey the following information regarding access to the UN Headquarters on 13 September 2007 - the date the General Assembly will consider The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

All persons who wish to attend should send their name, organizational affiliation(s) and contact information to Ms Luz Aragon, Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues [ aragonm@un.org ] at the latest by noon on Tuesday, 11 September 2007.

On 13 September 2007, the General Assembly will convene at 10:00 am. Persons wishing to enter and who have given their names beforehand to Ms Aragon should proceed through the visitors' entrance of the UN Headquarters building on 1st Avenue at 45th Street. They should proceed through the security (housed in the large white tent) then arrive at the reception area. Plan to spend 30 minutes in the queue to move through security. Near the desk in the reception area, the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will have a table with guest passes for those who contacted Ms Aragon in advance. Remember to bring a current photo identification card with you!

The public will be seated in the Public Gallery on the 4th floor of the General Assembly Hall.

Indigenous Chiefs, Elders and Regional Indigenous Caucus Coordinators will also be provided with a special pass and be seated in Section A of the General Assembly Hall on the second floor. Please inform us of the names of persons who qualify so that we can request the special passes.
