Individual Giving and Corporate Philanthropy

Individual Giving is defined as the donations made by individuals to one or more causes, while Corporate Philanthropy involves a corporation donating a part of its profit or resources to other organizations, usually as an act of corporate social responsibility. Corporate giving programs have become institutionalized in most major companies and are classified under one of three headings: 1) Charity, 2) Social and Commercial Interest, or 3) Commercial Interest.1

Levi Strauss Foundation (LSF)

The grant making programs of Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&CO.) and the Levi Strauss Foundation (LSF) seek to alleviate poverty on behalf of women and youth in communities around the world where the company's employees and contractors' employees live and work. LS&CO. and LSF have identified three specific program areas where they seek to have the most significant impact to alleviate poverty among women and youth. These are building assets; preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS by addressing stigma and discrimination and funding education and harm-reduction programs such as syringe access; and improving the working and living standards of garment workers through a global workers' rights initiative.
